Channel catfish are in most ponds, lakes and rivers. Finding the really big ones can be challenging. They are rather simple to catch on lures and many live and other baits, but to target them spefically bait is your best bet. They like minnows, small baitfish, chunks and worms. You can ctach them on bottom rigs, as well as on bobbers ... depending on location and time of year. I've always had my best luck targeting them on minnows or chicken livers ... YES ... chicken livers ! For whatever eason ... they love em and you mostly hook up with channel cats when using them. Many people like to eat channel cats. Their diet and style of forage makes for a cleaner, tastier meat. Personally, I don't like to eat any catfish. The bigger ones do fight hard and are a lot of fun to catch and can be a great time, especially for the kids. |
