How to get the BIG Yellow Perch !

This is the right time of year (late February), so we decided to go after a trophy yellow perch (also called ring perch) before the annual shad run. After 4 trips of figuring out the river and the fish ... it finally paid off. We used simple, tandem bottom rigs with medium and small minnows. When they are in full frenzy you can catch them on jigs, but they had been fickle. The unusual amount of snow this year kept the water temps lower and somewhat disrupted the big spawn. I do believe they are just now getting thick in there. It normally starts in early February ... this year ... March ! Look for the deep holes around the sharp bends of the river, with out of current areas. Go out and get you one ... GREAT to eat also ...
