Carp Fishing
- Tips & Tricks
I will never understand why some people call carp "trash fish" ? Anything that hits like a ton of bricks and strips 50 yds of drag and doesn't give up for over 10 minutes ... is something I call FUN ! I'll take out that trash any day ! One of few fish that will willingly bite all day long during the dog days of summer and it is such a blast, you will be hooked if you try it. Carp typically are bottom feeders. We use little or no weight at all and a small mosquito hook on a 20lb fluorocarbon leader. Corn, doughballs and oatmeal can all work well. Just heave it out and let it sit ... but be ready ! Sometimes when a carp hits, it will run and can take your rod if you are not paying attention ! All you have to do is lift the rod tip when they run and it's FISH ON !!! Many rivers and lakes can produce good size carp. Most of my carp fishing has been on the Appomatox and the James Rivers ... the upper James being the best. You won't be disappointed if you go out and get on some of these drag strippers ! You can also catch these beasts through other times of the year. Have fun !
